Where do the collective classes meet?
We meet at First Baptist Church located at 100 McDougald Ave, Pine Mountain, GA 31822.
When do the collective classes meet?
In an effort to encourage families to embrace the slow flow and flexibility of home education, classes will meet the first and third Fridays of the month. The second week of the month an optional meetup or field trip will be planned and is open to any homeschooling family in the community. The fourth week of the month is a rest week for families to relax, regroup, get caught up on lessons or enjoy other activities offered within the homeschool community.
What ages can participate in the collective classes?
Our goal is to have classes for kids ages 3-18 each session.
Is there a session fee?
There is not a set session fee. Members will pay class supply fees directly to their child's class leader. These fees may range from $0-$80 per session to cover the cost of supplies for the class. Class supply fees are listed under each class on the session information page. Affordability is something the collective will always offer. Many of us made the sacrifice of going to a one income household in order to homeschool. The collective was established as an opportunity for families like this to have an affordable and flexible option for homeschool enrichment classes. This is a part of supporting our local homeschool community.
Is there a membership fee?
No, there is not a membership fee however we will collect an administration fee each session for First Baptist Church since they graciously allow us to use their space for our collective.
Is this a drop off program?
Parents can sign out if their children are in classes, they are not volunteering and another parent in the collective assumes responsibility for their child. Children cannot be left on the property without an adult. For this reason, parents should be present when their child's class ends and during the lunch break.
Do I have to volunteer?
Yes, every parent must volunteer. This is to keep the cost of the collective down and it's a great opportunity to connect with other families. This is what really makes the collective great. There are lots of different volunteer positions so there's something for everybody. Explore the volunteer positions by clicking "join the collective" and click on the collective handbook.
Are you affiliated with a faith group?
The collective is not affiliated with a specific faith group however the code of conduct and expectations are based on Christian principles such as treat others as you would like to be treated. Everyone is welcome to attend the collective as we are all homeschooling families. The expectation is that everyone shows respect and kindness regardless of belief, race or background.
Will my child learn academics at the collective?
No, our collective offers supplemental and enrichment classes to children with the expectation that parents are teaching their children their core curriculum at home in accordance with state guidelines. There are many programs that offer academic classes that can be provided if you are looking for an academic program.
Are field trips offered?
Yes, the second week of the month field trips may be planned. Check the private Facebook group's event page for all the upcoming field trips!
What else does the collective offer?
Aside from class sessions the collective offers opportunities for families in our homeschool community to connect to resources and each other. It is the goal of the collective to be a hub for homeschooling families to find information, resources, opportunities and support!
