Where does the collective meet each week?
We meet at First Baptist Church located at 100 McDougald Ave, Pine Mountain, GA 31822 on Fridays.
What ages can participate in the collective?
Our goal is to have classes for kids ages 3-18 each session. We also have a nursery for kids ages 0-3 when their parents are volunteering.
Is there a session fee?
There is not a set session fee. Members will pay class supply fees directly to their child's class leader. These fees may range from $0-$80 per session to cover the cost of supplies for the class as well as the class leader's time. Class supply fees are listed under each class on the session information page.
Is there a membership fee?
No, there is not a membership fee however we will collect an administration fee each session for First Baptist Church since they graciously allow us to use their space for our collective. This fee also covers the cost for online registration and payments.
Is this a drop off program?
Parents can sign out if their children are in classes, they are not volunteering and another parent in the collective assumes responsibility for their child. Children cannot be left on the property without an adult. For this reason, parents should be present when their child's class ends and during the lunch break.
Do I have to volunteer?
Yes, every parent must sign up for one to two volunteer positions. If you'd like to sign up for more that's fine too! This is to keep the cost of the collective down and it's a great opportunity to connect with other families. This is what really makes the collective great. There are lots of different volunteer positions so there's something for everybody. Explore the volunteer positions by clicking "join the collective" and click on the collective handbook.
Are you affiliated with a faith group?
The collective is not affiliated with a specific faith group however the code of conduct and expectations are based on Christian principles such as treat others as you would like to be treated. Everyone is welcome to attend the collective as we are all homeschooling families. The expectation is that everyone shows respect and kindness regardless of belief, race or background.
Will my child learn academics at the collective?
No, our collective offers supplemental and enrichment classes to children with the expectation that parents are teaching their children their core curriculum at home in accordance with state guidelines. There are many programs that offer academic classes that can be provided if you are looking for an academic program.
Are field trips offered?
Two to three field trips/ outings will be planned per season (Fall & Spring) for collective families outside of classes. There are many groups that offer weekly park meet-ups and social activities along with organizations that offer homeschool events. In an effort to encourage collective families to embrace the slow flow of homeschooling as well as to connect with the homeschool community as a whole information will be provided to connect you these opportunities during the winter and summer months.
In addition to this tweens/ teens are invited once a month for the "social supper squad". This will be a time for the middle/ high school kids to share a meal, do an activity and get to know one another!
